5 new features in the iOS 14 Application Library that might come in handy

One of the most controversial features that Apple Society has come up with on iOS 14 is the Application Library. In this case, users are divided into two groups – the first group simply hates the Application Library and hopes that Apple will choose to add an option to Disable this feature in Settings in one of the next updates. The second group then praises the Application Library and tries to use it to one hundred possible percentages, although it would still like to easily improve this function. If you don't know what the Application Library does, it groups individual applications into certain categories. You can find the Application Library screen on the home screen, on the last page with applications on the right. Let's take a look at 5 tips in this article that might come in handy within the Application Library.

Move applications to and from the Application Library

From time to time, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to move an application from the Application Library to the classic application page, or in the opposite situation when you want to move an application from the page to the Application Library – none of these procedures are complicated at all and simply. In the first case, when moving from the Application Library, all you have to do is find a specific application in it. Then hold your finger on it for a moment, then drag the icon to the left to place it on any screen. To move an application to the Application Library, hold your finger on a free space on the desktop between applications to find yourself in edit mode. Then just click on the icon in the upper left corner of the application – and finally select the Move to application library option.

Behavior of newly downloaded applications

Of course, if you download an application from the App Store within iOS, it will be displayed on the home screen, as with previous versions of iOS, which may not be ideal for some users with the Application Library. However, within iOS 14, you can easily set newly downloaded applications not to appear on the home screen, that is, to appear only in the Application Library. This is useful if you have precisely distributed application icons on your site and you don't want the design to be distorted. If you want to set new applications not to appear on the home screen, but only in the Application Library, go to Settings -> Desktop, where in the Newly downloaded applications section, click Keep only in the application library. Alternatively, of course, activate Add to Desktop if you want new applications to be added there and there.

The number of visible pages in front of the Application Library

Apple introduced the iOS 14 operating system that users remember the placement of applications on the first two, up to three pages on the home screen. When you think about it, Apple is more or less right – let's admit that most of us have perfectly distributed applications on the first two pages, and the others then have an unsystematic order. It is in this case that the Application Library comes, which offers an easier view of less used applications. Of course, the user can choose how many times with the application page the Application Library is displayed. To change this number, hold your finger on an empty spot on the home screen to switch to edit mode. Then you need to click in the middle at the bottom of the dots that represent the number of pages. On the next screen, you can then check or uncheck to select which pages will be visible and which will be hidden.

Displaying badges in the Application Library

If you receive a notification from an application and you do not pick it up, in most cases a small red circle will appear at the top left of the application icon, along with a number. This wheel is called a badge and is used to inform you of the number of notifications that are waiting for you within a particular application. Therefore, if the number 5 is in the badge, it means that 5 different alerts are waiting for you in the application. These badges can also be displayed directly in the Application Library, which may not suit every user. Fortunately, we can change whether the badges will be displayed here or not. Old go to Settings -> Desktop, where in the category Badges badge switch next to the option Show in the application library to the (in) active position.

Search is important

Regarding the division of applications within the Application Library into different categories, the system takes care of this activity. We, as users, cannot interfere in any way with the division. Therefore, we cannot move applications from one category to another, nor can we rename categories. On the other hand, it should be mentioned that this automatic division in iOS works relatively well and you will find certain applications in exactly the category that comes to your mind first. However, if you want to find an application really quickly without clicking a category, you can use the search text box at the top of the Application Library. Here, just tap, type the first few letters of the application name, and then simply tap to turn it on. So definitely don't underestimate the search – I personally use it practically every time I want to run an application that I don't use on a daily basis.
