Buying an iPhone at a bazaar: 7 tips to look out for when buying a second-hand iPhone
Not every apple device user needs to own the latest. The latest devices from Apple are almost always intended for real professionals who can use them to 120%. For example, those users who have an iPhone only for calling, calling and chatting do not need an iPhone 11 Pro, but an iPhone 7 or, for example, a first-generation iPhone SE will suffice. Due to the fact that these older devices are no longer manufactured, it is often worth buying used, ie second-hand. Of course, this brings with it various pitfalls that you must avoid. Unfortunately, the world is still full of fraudsters who may try to force a broken, broken or even blocked iPhone. Let's take a look at 7 tips in this article, what to look out for when buying a second-hand iPhone.

Where to make a purchase?

If you are going to buy a new iPhone, then you have to reckon with the fact that you are going to enter the darkness. You can easily buy the device through your favorite portal with advertisements, but the point is that in the case of classic advertisements, someone else will always sell you a certain thing. In addition, you will not receive a warranty for the equipment used. So be sure to take the time to choose the right ad and don't call the first ad you see. I can personally recommend you our Apple bazaar, where I have already sold several apple devices and also bought one. However, even here we cannot guarantee that everything will go well – so remember that you should never send money to anyone in advance. If you want to avoid all the dangers, there are several companies available on the Czech market that mediate the sale of used iPhones – one of them is, for example, Mobil Pohotovost, with which I also have very positive experience. In this case, you can be sure that the device is 100% functional, and you will also receive a warranty. Of course, there are more expensive devices.
Completely erased iPhone
If you have decided to buy a second-hand iPhone from someone, you should make sure during the meeting that the device is completely erased and that it is not held in an Apple ID account. If the device was not deleted, it would be useless to you – it would not work until you enter the password for the Apple ID of the original owner. You can find out that iPhone is deleted in Settings, where a sign-in option must appear in the profile box at the top.

Check your warranty and IMEI
If you are going to buy an iPhone, you should check the warranty and IMEI. You can check your warranty simply by going to Apple's Coverage Verification page. Here you then enter either the serial number or the IMEI number of the device in the text field. You can find this data in Settings -> General -> Information. After entering one of the numbers, you will be shown information on whether the warranty is valid or not. As for the IMEI, you can still make sure that the device is not stolen. In the Czech Republic, you can do so on the website of the Police of the Czech Republic, just click on this link, and then enter the IMEI of the device in the text box. The application will then show you whether the device is stolen or not.

Hardware is still important
When you find an ad on an advertising portal in which someone offers an iPhone for a great price, then definitely don't rush to make a quick purchase. Decide if the equipment in the ad is really the equipment you need and that will suit your requirements. For example, if you take a lot of photos, it is clear that an iPhone with 16 GB of memory will probably not be enough for you. If you like to play games again, then you have to reckon with the fact that the iPhone 5S or maybe 6 may not be enough for you in terms of performance. In short, clarify your priorities and think about whether the device will suit you and whether you will not have to change it again in a few months.

Of course, the battery is also connected to the hardware as such. Many people still think that the battery is a hardware component that will last on the iPhone for several long years. However, the opposite is true, as the battery is a classic consumer product – which means that it gradually loses its properties and needs to be replaced. A few years ago, we finally saw a section in Settings in iOS, where you can view the maximum battery capacity, along with the battery status. Just go to Settings -> Battery -> Battery condition, where pay attention to the Maximum battery capacity field. If there is a Service here, or the capacity is below 80%, it will be necessary to replace the battery sooner or later. Below you will find information on whether the device is running at full power or whether it must have been reduced due to a bad battery.
Signs of damage
In the ad, pay attention to the photos that the seller will add to it. Study the photos in detail and try to find any imperfections that might interest you in the event of a meeting with the seller. At a possible meeting, then properly inspect the signs of damage, which may include, for example, scratches in the chassis, scratched display and more. Then it's up to you whether you need the iPhone to be in 100% visual condition, or you don't mind a few knocks from the fight. In any case, keep in mind that a damaged device is often less expensive than a fully functional one. At the same time, make sure that all system functions work – such as Touch ID or Face ID, speaker, microphone, earpiece, hardware buttons, display, cameras, charging connector, wireless charging, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, calling and more.

The worst damage in the case of electronics is water damage. Apple inserts a kind of miraculous paper into each iPhone, which changes its color from white to red after contact with water. With certain iPhones, you can see this paper without disassembling the device. All you have to do is slide out the SIM card drawer and then light it up into the slot. There may be paper on one side of the body. If it is red, get your hands away from the device immediately – it was in contact with water. Otherwise, if the paper is white, then everything is fine.

Beware of fraudsters
When selecting an ad, try to identify all possible fraudsters. Note that nowadays no one will give you something for free, and if you find an advertisement in which the price for the device is several thousand crowns lower than in similar advertisements, then something is 100% wrong. You can also recognize a fraud by using, for example, illustrative photos of the device from the Internet and not wanting to share real photos with you. Also be careful if there are, for example, only two photos in the advertisement, which are also blurred, for example. The fraudsters also include sellers who mention in the ad that they are selling the phone to a friend or family member. Last but not least, you can recognize a fraudster by saying that he wants to pay you in advance before you even had a chance to inspect the purchased equipment. Remember, you should never send money to anyone in advance!
