"Galaxy A72 becomes Samsung's first penta-camera phone"
According to reports from South Korea, Samsung is planning the Galaxy A72 with no less than five cameras on the back. We already confirmed one of them last week, but it was not clear before that there will be so many.
Galaxy A72: five cameras
Last week, we were the first to share some technical details of the upcoming Galaxy A52 with the world. We also already dropped a detail of the A72: namely that the device will have the same macro camera as the A52.
Based on the presence of this macro camera, we concluded that Samsung probably does not opt for a telephoto lens in the A-series. And although that conclusion is correct for the A52, it appears to be too short for the A72 – according to reports from South Korea.
There you can read that the A52 maintains the familiar quad-camera setup – main camera, wide-angle, depth and macro – but that Samsung goes a step further for the A72. That device should be the first in the A-series since the Galaxy A9 (2018) with a zoom lens.
It is said to be a lens that offers 3x optical zoom. This naturally leads to the suspicion that it is the same 8MP zoom camera that can already be found in the Galaxy S20 FE.
Together with a 64MP main camera, 12MP wide angle lens, 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro camera, the penta camera module on the back of the Galaxy A72 is complete. Add to that the 32MP front camera, and you have a mid-range phone with 6 (six) cameras.
Of course there are reasons in itself for the presence of each individual camera. But when we zoom out – ha ha – we still get the feeling that Samsung's innovation in 2020 is a bit of a loose cannon in some areas. Zoom lens? Yes! And a macro camera? The three people who need both will be very happy 😉.
Are you one of these three people?
