How to set your own background effect on a Mac in Skype

We probably don't need to mention the coronavirus pandemic in any particular way. In a few months, it will be a whole year since humanity has been battling coronavirus COVID-19. In order to prevent the further spread of the disease, most countries in the world have created special measures – and of course this is not the case in the Czech Republic. These measures also include, for example, home teaching or work in the home office mode. If you need to connect with someone at home, you can use several applications. One of the most popular is Skype, which offers a function for setting your own background, or for blurring it. This is useful if you don't want callers to see what's going on behind your back. How to set your own background effect on a Mac in Skype

If you're using Skype on your Mac for video-sharing with your class or other employees, and you'd like to learn how to set your own background or blur it, follow these steps:

First, switch to Skype on your macOS device.
Now you need to click on the three dots icon on the top right of the main page.

Once you have done so, select Settings from the menu that appears.

When you click on this option, another window with all preferences will appear.
In the left menu of this window, click the Audio and video box.

Then the image of your camera will be displayed. Below it, pay attention to the Choose background effect section:
If you want to change the background, choose one of the prepared images;
Alternatively, you can, of course, click on the rectangle with + and choose your own image.

If you select Blur, the background will be blurred automatically.

In the above way, you can easily set your own background image before the video call, or you can have the background blurred. If you already have an active video call and want to make quick changes during it, click on the icon of three dots with the text Next in the lower right part of the window. Then click Choose background effect and follow the same steps as above. Once you have everything set, just click on the cross at the top left.
