July update for the Samsung Galaxy S9 now available in the Netherlands
Just in time, the July update is now available on Samsung's Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. The update contains only the latest security patch, and perhaps one or two bug fixes for the One UI 2.1 interface.
Galaxy S9 update July 2020
Holiday is nice, but for an update for the Galaxy S9 we make some time. Although frankly there is not even that much to report, except that the July update is now available. And after a 134MB large download you can install it yourself. Firmware version G96xFXXUAETG3 promises to be a real update in terms of version numbering – and not just one that improves security. However, the only point on the changelist is the improved security that the July patch brings.
This patch contains 21 fixes from Google for the Android OS, and 14 improvements that Samsung is rolling out for its own software. We see that the camera app is more secure, as well as the reactivation lock. In addition, it fixes a bug that could sometimes cause problems when setting high-resolution wallpapers.
The question remains why today's update is not a "pure" security update. The answer is probably simple. First of all, the boot loader is updated – see the notification that downgrading is not possible. In addition: last month the Galaxy S9 got the big upgrade to One UI 2.1. With most users it went smoothly but a small bug can still appear on the left or right. Today's update may smooth out a ripple there, so.
You can now install the update OTA (Over The Air) on the Dutch, unbranded Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. If you bought your branded device directly from T-Mobile or Vodafone, or use a Belgian model, you have to be patient.
As soon as the update is ready for your Galaxy S9, you will automatically receive a notification. Of course you can also check availability directly, via Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
Have you spotted more (visible) changes in this update? Or do you notice anything about solved – or new – bugs?
