July update now also available on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Today Samsung makes the July update available for the Galaxy Note 8. The device from 2017 receives a few times – at least – the monthly security patch, before the frequency decreases.
Galaxy Note 8 update July 2020
The Galaxy Note 8 appeared in 2017 – the same year as the Galaxy S8, but several months later. Although the S8 will no longer receive monthly updates from May, the Note 8 is currently still receiving it. So see there: the July update.
The 580MB large download includes firmware version N950FXXSCDTF1, without functional changes, but with this month's security patch. It includes 21 improvements for the security of the Android OS itself, and 14 improvements for Samsung's One UI software.
You can now download the July update directly OTA on the unbranded Galaxy Note 8 in the Netherlands. In Belgium it will probably also become available during the day. If you bought your branded device at the time from Vodafone or T-Mobile, you should – as always – be patient.
As soon as the update is ready for your phone, a notification will automatically appear. You can always check manually if this is already the case, by going to Settings and Software Update to Download and install.
By the way: we expect the Note 8 to receive at least the monthly patches of August and September. After that, Samsung will likely cut the update frequency back to once per quarter – just like the S8 happened in May. Since then, that device has received updates in June and July, so it does not have to go that fast with that reduction.
