More Samsung updates: Galaxy S10 Lite gets One UI 2.5, various patches for A70, A80 and A41
It has been a busy week in the field of updates. Samsung is now also releasing the One UI 2.5 upgrade for the Galaxy S10 Lite. The Galaxy A70, A80 get new security patches. The Galaxy A41 also received a new update, but without a newer security patch.
Galaxy S10 Lite update September 2020 with One UI 2.5
At the beginning of this week, the One UI 2.5 upgrade rolled out to the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10e. Even then we noticed that the update will also come to the Galaxy S10 Lite later – and today is the day. Firmware version G770FXXU3CTH4 doesn't just bring the September security patch to the device. The latest version of Samsung's own interface – One UI 2.5 – is also available after installation.
One UI 2.5 brings, among other things, improvements for the camera – more options for the Pro Video and Single recording modes, and sound with Motion photo – to the S10 Lite. The keyboard is refreshed, and you can request access to a Wi-Fi network from a contact connected to the same network nearby. Due to the lack of DeX on the S10 Lite, the device with One UI 2.5 does not get the wireless version of the software.
The One UI 2.5 update is now OTA – Over The Air – available on the unbranded S10 Lite in the Netherlands and Belgium. At the time of writing, it is not yet available on branded Vodafone devices. You will automatically receive a notification when your device can download it. Or you start the update yourself via Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
Galaxy A70 update September 2020
A week ago, the Galaxy A50 got the September update, and now it's bigger brother's turn for the latest dash of security fixes. Until now, it was still running on the July patch.
Firmware version A705FNXXU5BTH4 brings the September patch to the device, including the improvements that were in the intermediate patch – the August patch. We ourselves do not have the device here, and a changelog cannot yet be found on Samsung's own servers. Have you already installed the update on your Galaxy A70, and have you encountered even more obvious changes or improvements? Let us know below!
In any case, the update is now available on unbranded devices in the Netherlands. If you bought your branded Galaxy A70 from Vodafone, or own a Belgian one, then you have to wait until it also appears on your phone.
Galaxy A80 update August 2020
Earlier this week we wrote that the Galaxy A80 will finally get a new update. The device was still running on the May patch – firmware version A805FXXS4BTH5 changes this. After installation of the update you may not have the very latest patch, but with a patch date of August 1, you are at least a lot better.
The update, which does not bring any further practical changes to the Galaxy A80, is now available on unbranded devices in the Netherlands and Belgium. Only Vodafone models are not available for download at the time of writing.
Galaxy A41 update: better camera, old patch
The Galaxy A41 is currently getting a new update almost every month. One arrived in June, July, August, and now it's price again. That's a bit striking for a phone that is officially only updated once a quarter. That the latter is indirectly the case is evident from the updates themselves. Although every update brings minor improvements, the actual security patches are slower.
For example, firmware version A415FXXU1ATH2 does not bring a new security patch this time. The August update included the July patch, which now remains unchanged. With this, the more than 211MB update apparently brings hardly any improvements. The changelog only mentions that "Camera stability has been improved". This also means that the Galaxy A41 should receive a new, complete security patch by October.
The update for the A41 is now OTA available on all device variants in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Have you installed any of the above updates on your Samsung phone? Do you encounter more noticeable changes, bug fixes or new bugs? Share your experiences with the new software below.
