Samsung Galaxy A52 gets update to Android 12 – addition: A52s now also
The first Dutch users can now install the update to Android 12 on the Galaxy A52. The upgrade is available on the 5G version of the device, and also brings Samsung's One UI 4 interface. In Belgium you can also update the Galaxy A52s. Supplement 21 January: from now on the upgrade is also available on the Dutch A52s.
Galaxy A52(s) update: Android 12 and One UI 4
When Samsung announced its official planning for the roll-out of the Android 12 update in early December, it became clear that the first phone in the A-series would start in February. When the upgrade already appeared on the Galaxy A72 earlier this week, that planning turned out not to be right. And indeed: today, in the middle of January, you can also get started with the Galaxy A52.
The 2.2GB major update is also ready for the 5G version of that device. Firmware version A526BXXU1BUL7 does three things in one fell swoop. The January security patch will be installed, as will Android version 12, and version 4 of the One UI interface. Addition: on the Galaxy A52s you get firmware version A528BXXU1BUL7.
With the major upgrade, quite a few minor and major changes are coming to the Galaxy A52(s). The complete changelog is at the bottom of this article. Most notable include the all-new Color Palette feature, the improved Always On Display, and the indicator that shows when your camera and microphone are active. Furthermore, in One UI 4 you can compose GIFs with emoji directly on the keyboard, and you will receive more information – if necessary – with future firmware updates.
The camera is also being refined, with an updated interface with new zoom icons, and an improved way of scanning documents. There is now the Extra dimming option for the screen, to make the display even less bright if you want to read in the dark, for example. For more tips and descriptions, you can also dive into our coverage of the changes in One UI 4.
If you have not yet performed the update, you can read our tips for preparing for and installing the Android 12 update on your Samsung phone. After the update, you should in any case consider that a lot is still happening with your device. For the first hours or days after installation, the system is re-optimizing itself. This results in a higher energy consumption, so that your battery initially seems to last less long. However, when this process is completed, the energy consumption will return to normal.
The Android 12 update is currently OTA available on the unbranded Galaxy A52 and A52s 5G in the Netherlands and Belgium. You can't download it on the 4G model at the time of writing – just like on the various branded devices from Vodafone and T-Mobile. We also expect the rollout later this month on all A52(s) models for which the upgrade is not yet available.
You will receive a notification as soon as you can download it on your device. You can also always manually check whether you can already download Android 12, if you go to Software update via Settings and tap Download and install there.
Have you received the update on your Galaxy A52(s)? Is everything working properly? Are you encountering new bugs?
(Thanks, Petra, Willem, and Marinus!)
