Samsung Galaxy S9 update: September patch, no One UI 2.5 yet
Samsung is rolling out the September update for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. This brings the latest security patch. The previously promised upgrade to One UI 2.5 is not yet coming this month, but is already under development.
Galaxy S9 update September 2020
The Galaxy S9 update of this month arrives on schedule. The new software doesn't include any extra frills and features just yet – we'll have to make do with the September security patch. A 104MB download installs this using firmware version G96 * FXXSBETH2. There are no practical innovations, and Samsung and Google still have not announced what is in the September patch. As a result, we are still in the dark regarding the content of today's update.
What is certain is that it does not yet contain the recently promised upgrade to One UI 2.5. The latest version of Samsung's interface was launched last month with the Galaxy Note 20, and is now also in development for the Galaxy S9 and Note 9. However, on these devices we will only see the update – with a handful of new functions – in October. or November. In June, the Galaxy S9 received the upgrade to One UI 2.1, after the device had received version 2.0 at the same time as Android 10 in January.
You can now install the September patch OTA if you have a Netherlands or Belgian, unbranded Galaxy S9 (Plus). The new update will follow soon for branded devices from Vodafone and T-Mobile, but not yet today.
As you are used to, a notification will automatically appear that you can download the update. If you don't want to wait for that, you can always immediately check availability via Settings -> Software update -> Download and install.
Have you already installed it on your Galaxy S9 (Plus)? Do you notice anything else?
