Synology: DS1621xs + officially launched & available
The DS1621xs + from Synology is not the first NAS to be shown this year before the release. Official documents for other NAS devices of the Plus series have already slipped “out of the hands” of the group, not to say: They put them online on their own website. Therefore, in this article there is only a short summary including the euro prices, because there are no surprises.
The DS1621xs + holds 6 hard drives in a compact 11.5 liter housing, and with a dual DX517 expansion unit, which is available separately, the NAS can even swallow up to 16 drives. The Intel Xeon D-1527 should provide decent performance under the hood. The quad-core processor clocks with 2.2 GHz and 2.7 GHz in Turbo Boost. The NAS is supported by 8 GB DDR4-ECC-RAM, which can be expanded to up to 32 GB. With this, Synology has created a real powerhouse that will be used by business customers or enthusiasts. That purpose is likely to be in particular for complex virtualization work to be carried out at the same time.
For virtualization purposes, an NVMe SSD cache can be built into two M2 slots. In addition, the NAS can be connected to the network via a 10 GbE port and two 1 GbE ports. An additional 10 GbE network card can optionally be accommodated in the PCI Express slot. In combination with the powerful Xeon processor, read rates of over 3.1 GB / s and write rates of 1.8 GB / s (sequential) can be achieved.
The price? Synology calls for almost 1,700 euros at the current VAT rate. The availability in the trade should be given during the day.
